I was first introduced to the podcast, The Oval Office Tapes, about 6 weeks ago and I fell in love almost immediately. The Oval Office Tapes is a scripted podcast that imagines what the conversations must sound like in the White House. RJ Cutler, Scott Conroy, and Jason Blum are the executive producers. Yogi's Podcast Network had the pleasure of interviewing RJ Cutler at
The concept behind The Oval Office Tapes is described by RJ Cutler “I'm not alone, I think, these days in being fairly obsessed with what's going on in Washington D.C., what's happening at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., and it occurred to me that if we could hear what was going on within the rooms there, the private rooms, it'd be very interesting, and that's what The Oval Office Tapes is.” said RJ Cutler about The Oval Office Tapes.
The Oval Office Tapes never reads directly from advertising copy.
Instead, they employ the Ghost of Abraham Lincoln, Totally Real Paid Protestors, and the Backbone of the Republican Party to read the advertisements. This results in some really funny segments.
One reason I enjoy The Oval Office Tapes so much is that it is close enough to the truth that it makes me laugh. By exaggerating things we've all thought about when hearing about the latest Trump Administration scandal, we all get to laugh because we all relate. I recall asking RJ Cutler if he thought the show could continue if there was another administration and he emphatically said it could. I agree. I think that most Americans wonder what these conversations must sound like. It gives people great pleasure to imagine that the conversations go exactly as they do on The Oval Office Tapes. RJ even related that sometimes they write something a certain way, not knowing how reality will turn out and they find they've written it exactly how it worked out. Yes, The Oval Office Tapes has been prophetic at times.
I enjoy podcasts a great deal. The Oval Office Tapes is one of those podcasts that I listen to every episode as it is released. I highly recommend this podcast, especially if you like politics and comedy. It is golden!
